Who we are

Experienced, hands-on geoscientists

Dr Steve Morice

Director & Principal Geophysicist

Steve has 30 years of experience in upstream development geophysics, spanning seismic survey design, seismic acquisition, processing and imaging, QI, borehole geophysics, microseismic and passive seismic monitoring. He has held global technical leadership positions in Schlumberger and Shell, was a SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2017, and has over 50 publications and two patents to his name. Steve also holds a PhD in earthquake seismology from the University of Cambridge.

Michele D’Ath-Woodd

Director & Principal Geoscientist

Director and Principal Geoscientist at SeisMomentum since 2022, Michele is a Geoscientist of twenty years’ experience in the upstream energy industry, with an MSc in Quaternary Science focussed on geomorphological erosion processes. Industry background ranges from geotechnical engineering, oil & gas field appraisal and development, data acquisition, integrated reservoir modelling, and through to brownfield asset review and abandonment. Michele expertly communicates science from community to management and serves as Vice President of the Taranaki Geological Society – proof that geology doesn’t have to stay underground.

We are passionate advocates for geoscience awareness in our local and national communities, providing talks, school visits and hands-on outreach that bring Earth science to life, from how the Taranaki Basin formed to the part geoscience plays in New Zealand’s energy future.

Our technology

3D and 2D seismic merging

Basin-scale insight from surveys that were never designed to fit together.

Our proprietary post-stack workflow re-grids any number of 3D surveys and 2D lines onto one common grid, keeping the full resolution of every input. It runs on a desktop workstation in days, not months, so it costs far less than reprocessing.

  • Full input resolution, with no pixelation or gridding artefacts
  • 2D lines built into the 3D volume, ready for 3D interpretation
  • Surveys can be added or swapped as new data arrives

Synthetic 3D seismic

XES02 dip and strike 3D seismic volumes

A training and analogue-testing dataset for seismic-stratigraphic basin analysis, reservoir evaluation, and CCS screening.

Built from the XES02 experimental basin (St Anthony Falls Laboratory, University of Minnesota). 599 high-resolution photographs of slices through the physical sediment model were converted into 3D elastic depth models, scaled up to real-world dimensions, and turned into synthetic 3D seismic.
